why data centre need to be cleaned?

Dirty Data Centre

1. Contaminants threat

  • Particulates as small as half a micron (a millionth of a meter, or 1/400,000 of an inch), can damage servers, storage and networking equipment by causing them to overheat and short circuit.

2. Zinc Whiskers

  • Zinc is a good conductor, so when whiskers reach 500 microns, they become a threat to microcircuits, causing short circuits, voltage variances and signal disturbances.
  • Most commonly, they grow under older raised floors, whose underside is ABM Solutions told us of 30 to 40 zinc whisker cleaning projects it had done in the last eight years.
  • Recently, one customer reported 142 power failures caused by the metal particulates. made of steel galvanized or electroplated with zinc to avoid rusting or oxidation.

3. Data loss prevention

  • Potential issues like data loss and media errors have been reported by data centers due to the interference of dust and particulates with the electronic equipment leading to serious downtimes.
  • The best way to prevent such careless downtimes in your data center is to avoid issues before they show up. And the only way to do it is through regular cleaning of the data center.

4. Less Down Time

  • Poorly managed data centres can find themselves suffering from a build up of dust and debris. This build up of dust and debris can begin to cause problems as it works its way into the inner most workings of the data centre itself.
  • Over time, you’ll find issues arising that will not only cost you money to repair, but will result in down time of your data centre

5. Money Savings

  • With less down time and fewer costly repairs, you’ll find your business making far more savings over the course of the financial year. It’s then down to you to decide whether or not to enjoy these savings as added profit or whether or not to pass them on to clients in the form of more competitive pricing.
  • While we can’t make this decision for you, what we will say is “happy clients are returning clients”.
